New President/CEO Announcement: Margaret Sanchez Selected to Lead Esperanza

December 17, 2024

Dear friends,

We are thrilled to announce Margaret Sanchez as Esperanza’s next President and CEO. Margaret brings comprehensive experience in management, development, and marketing, particularly in nonprofit organizations, which will be invaluable as we work to expand programs to learners of all ages.

The search for a new leader began last December following Victor’s decision to step down after 15 successful years as Esperanza’s President and CEO. Koya Partners, an executive search firm with an exclusive focus on recruiting leaders for mission-driven roles, conducted a thorough, national search for the best qualified candidate.

We were fortunate to discover the ideal leader right here in Cleveland. Margaret, who most recently served as the Vice President of Development for the YWCA Greater Cleveland, has made significant strides in expanding the organization’s funding sources.

Over the course of her career, Margaret has secured millions of dollars for nonprofits, demonstrating her exceptional command of development. She also has experience as a CEO, where she built a nonprofit organization from the ground up, as well as expertise in marketing, communications, community relations, budget management, and organizational development.

Margaret has dedicated her career to empowering minority communities, especially Latinos. Her impactful work with respected organizations such as the Hispanic Unity of Florida and the National Association of Latino Elected Officials has earned her numerous national and local accolades. Margaret also serves on the boards of the Northeast Ohio Hispanic Business Center, the Latin American Presidential Mission, and the City of Cleveland Hispanic Advisory Board. Additionally, she has been named one of the 100+ Latinos Cleveland Must Know.

Having immigrated to the United States at the age of 13, Margaret personally understands the challenges faced by our students and families. Her passion for Esperanza’s mission was clear from her very first interview, where she shared dynamic energy and innovative ideas to advance our work.

Margaret will officially begin her role on January 6, 2025, with Victor continuing as an advisor through February to ensure a smooth transition. We are deeply grateful to Victor for his extraordinary leadership and unwavering commitment to Esperanza throughout his tenure.

We are confident that Margaret’s broad expertise, unique perspective, and collaborative leadership style will guide Esperanza into an exciting new chapter of growth and impact. We ask for your support in welcoming Margaret to our organization and for your continued commitment to Esperanza’s mission.

We look forward to the opportunities ahead and to the incredible future we will build together.
