Gus is an active ELLOS mentor, often contributing to the group conversations by answering questions and concerns the students have while encouraging them to be themselves as authentically as they feel is possible. “I volunteer at Esperanza because mentoring and empowering youth of color is an important and necessary part of creating strong communities, and in promoting diverse leadership in the future. As a Tejano and Mexican American living in Ohio, Esperanza has provided me a place to connect with my culture and to engage in volunteer work that will have lasting impact.”
When Gus is not volunteering with ELLOS, you can find him playing adventure video games and taking care of his plants. In addition, Gus is currently working on his Master’s in Marriage & Family Therapy.
