Introducing Esperanza’s First Annual Report

For more than 40 years, Esperanza has worked to empower learners and families across Northeast Ohio through education, leadership development, workforce readiness, and scholarship support. Today, we are proud to share a new milestone in that journey.

Our first Annual Report highlights the stories, partnerships, programs, and outcomes that continue to shape Esperanza’s impact across the community. Inside, you’ll find student success stories, organizational milestones, community collaborations, and the measurable results made possible through the support of donors, partners, volunteers, and advocates like you.

This report reflects more than a year of work. It reflects a shared commitment to building stronger pathways from education to workforce success for the learners and families we serve.

We invite you to explore the report and see the impact your support helps make possible.

🏀 Thank You, Cavs! 🏀

Throughout an exciting playoff season, Esperanza was proud to rally behind the Cleveland Cavaliers and celebrate the energy, pride, and unity they brought to Northeast Ohio.

The Cavs Care team stopped by Esperanza Headquarters with a special Cavaliers banner, giving our staff the opportunity to show support for our hometown team during their playoff run against the New York Knicks.

While the season has come to an end, we remain grateful to the Cavaliers organization for continuing to spread positivity throughout the community and for creating moments that bring Cleveland together both on and off the court.

Thank you, Cavs, for an unforgettable season. Let ’Em Know!!!

EYLP Students Celebrate a Year of Growth & Leadership

Esperanza Youth Leadership Program (EYLP) students recently celebrated the end of the school year with an exciting day at Fun ’n’ Stuff in Macedonia alongside 50 students from Natividad Pagan International Newcomers Academy and Rhodes School of Environmental Studies.

The celebration marked the close of a meaningful year filled with academic growth, leadership development, mentorship, and future planning. Throughout the program, students strengthened their confidence, built lasting connections, and explored new possibilities for their educational and professional futures.

For many of our high school participants, the year also included workforce-focused experiences designed to help students explore career pathways, develop professional skills, and prepare for life beyond graduation. These opportunities continue to reflect Esperanza’s commitment to connecting education to long-term success.

In addition to celebrating the school year, our younger EYLP students also received a special surprise during this Cleveland Cavaliers playoff season! Through the Cavaliers’ support of nonprofit partners across the city, students were gifted playoff fan kits filled with Cavs gear including pom poms, sunglasses, stickers, wristbands, and drawstring bags.

We are grateful to the Cavs organization for helping create memorable experiences for our students and bringing even more excitement and community spirit to this special time of year!

Cleveland Foundation Public Service Fellows Visit Esperanza HQ

Esperanza was proud to welcome the Cleveland Foundation Public Service Fellows cohort to our headquarters for a day of connection, conversation, and community engagement.

Hosted by Cleveland Foundation Public Service Fellow Lucas Nogueira Balaniuc, the visit gave fellows an inside look at Esperanza’s mission and impact across Northeast Ohio. The cohort spent time meeting staff members, touring the organization, and participating in a panel discussion featuring Esperanza Director of Operations Jeff McKissick and Board Member and Esperanza alumnus William G. Rodriguez.

The Cleveland Foundation’s Public Service Fellows initiative places emerging civic leaders within nonprofits and public institutions throughout Greater Cleveland, helping prepare the next generation of changemakers through hands-on community experience and leadership development.

We are grateful for our continued partnership with the Cleveland Foundation and proud to support initiatives that connect future leaders to meaningful service and community impact. We are especially proud of Lucas for the leadership, professionalism, and passion he continues to bring to Esperanza.

UnidosUS Alumni Mixer Strengthens Regional Connections

Esperanza recently hosted a special UnidosUS Alumni Mixer, bringing together alumni from the Avanzando Through College and Escalera programs alongside students and peers from Lorain County Community College for an evening focused on connection, community, and shared experiences.

Sponsored by UnidosUS, the gathering created space for alumni to reconnect, build new relationships, and strengthen the growing network of emerging leaders and professionals connected through UnidosUS-affiliated programs.

We were also honored to welcome Karen Ceballos, Education Program Manager at UnidosUS, whose visit highlighted the strength of Esperanza’s partnership within the national UnidosUS affiliate network and our shared commitment to expanding educational and workforce opportunities for learners across the country.

As a proud UnidosUS affiliate, Esperanza remains connected to a national network working to empower communities through education, workforce development, leadership, and advocacy.

Events like these continue to strengthen our alumni community and reinforce the importance of staying connected long after students complete their programs.

Celebrating the Conclusion of Padres Comprometidos

This week, Esperanza proudly celebrated the conclusion of another successful Padres Comprometidos cohort, a UnidosUS parent engagement and leadership program designed to help families strengthen their involvement in their children’s educational journey and advocate for student success.

Hosted in collaboration with Julia De Burgos Cultural Arts Center, the program created meaningful opportunities for parents and families to connect, learn, and grow together through workshops focused on leadership, educational engagement, and community empowerment.

We extend a special thank you to our Volunteer Coordinator, Kelvin Matos, for his dedication and support throughout the program, as well as to all participating families and community partners who helped make this experience impactful and successful.

Programs like Padres Comprometidos continue to strengthen family engagement and reinforce the important role parents and caregivers play in student achievement and long-term success.
