College Mentoring

In 2016, Esperanza launched a College Mentoring Program (Spanish speaking Mentors) to assist our scholarship recipients and college students in successfully completing college.

Today, we continue this program by matching 100+ college students with qualified professionals in the Greater Cleveland area!

With the commitment of 30 minutes a month for 12 months, our goal is that each college student finds the encouragement they need to not just get through college, but thrive and make the world a better place.

We also understand that life can be hectic, so we designed this program to be partially virtual, however, Esperanza hosts events throughout the year to bring mentor-mentee pairs together. We offer mentoring in Spanish as well as individual Coaching and Role Models.

Okay, we know you are sold, please fill out our Registration Form to begin the process. For more information, contact our Post-Secondary staff.

College mentors can engage in a variety of activities with their mentees, depending on the mentee’s individual needs and goals. Here are a few examples:

Goal setting and planning. Mentors can help mentees identify their academic, personal, and career goals, and develop a plan to achieve them. This may involve discussing the mentee’s strengths and weaknesses, brainstorming ideas, and setting realistic timelines.

Academic support. Mentors can provide mentees with academic support in a variety of ways, such as tutoring, helping with research, and proofreading assignments. They can also help mentees develop effective study habits and time management skills.

Career guidance. Mentors can provide mentees with guidance on their career path, such as helping them choose a major, explore different career options, and prepare for job interviews. They can also connect mentees with their professional networks.

Personal support. Mentors can provide mentees with personal support and guidance, such as helping them navigate college life, adjust to a new city, and deal with personal challenges. They can also be a listening ear and a source of encouragement.

Mentoring can be a rewarding experience for both mentors and mentees. By engaging in meaningful activities and building a strong relationship, mentors can help their mentees succeed in college and beyond.
